The gist

These comments were sent in response to Question 11.

People like Zamorano blades for SCA rapier for various reasons.

Why people don't — too stiff, edge gets nicked too easily.

FAVORABLE

Φ Atl. ~ I use Zamorano I liek the blades overall, a bit stiff but good.

Φ Atl. ~ I like the 31" Zamorano for point thrust work. It's short and handy.

Φ Caid ~ Zomorano is the best.

Φ Caid ~ Like: Zamorano, Good rigidity, shots go where you want them to.

Φ Mer. ~ The Zamorano I had at first had a bad spot in it which caused a bend after one fight. Triplette replaced it and I have had no trouble.

Φ Mid. ~ Zamorano - has a good feel and look.  ``Gilebert

Φ Mid. ~ Like=Zamorano. Good balance and weight.

Φ Nor. ~ Like the Zamorano, great parries.  ``Cy

Φ Out. ~ Love Zamorano for look, feel, heft...  ``Volker

Φ Tri. ~ My favorite is my Zamorano, mostly as it comes closest to what a period blade would act like.  ``Mikael

Φ West ~ Zamorano: Favorite of what I've used/handled. Del Tin is equivalent, but I own a Zamorano.  ``Alail

Plus generic favorable mentions from: Atenveldt 1, Midrealm 2, and Trimaris 1.

NEUTRAL/MIXED

Φ AEth. ~ I very much like the Zamorano blade in the proper hilt setting. My preferred armorer is Darkwood Armory, and my 35 inch Zamorano has a beautiful response in this rig. The diamond cross section, however, requires constant maintenance to clean up indentations in the blade.  ``Corwin

Φ An Tir ~ I love my Zamorano. It behaves in every way like a rapier should behave. My only gripes are that the metal is a bit soft and the blade is a bit on the heavy side.  ``Ruaidhri

Φ Aten. ~ Zamoranos are good simulators by way of weight and balance, but knick up badly.

Φ Eald. ~ Zamorano: Very nice to look at, but very heavy. Not floppy like the Del Tins.  ``Sebastian

Φ Mid. ~ Absolutely love my 36" Zamorano, looks and handling. Dislike that its edge is fairly soft and gets nicked up quickly. Also wants to rust quicker than other blades in high humidity. Will get another Zamorano.  ``Kriemhilt

UNFAVORABLE

Φ An Tir ~ Burn it.

Φ An Tir ~ Too stiff for most fighters, espicially new ones.

Φ Art. ~ The Zamorano I could never get to balance well so I sold it.  ``Sionainn

Φ Caid ~ Zam's are (I find) generally badly balanced for me.  ``Alexander K

Φ Drach. ~ Dislike: Zamorano (bit stiff 4 rapier, but cool 4 sidesword).  ``Cernac

Φ East ~ I dislike Zamorano because the weight coupled with the thin edge makes them dangerous: when I "played my prize" in September 2002 before recieving my White Scarf, I faced a Zamorano. A very light blow connected with my shin, resulting in a break in the skin which was about 1' long and about 1/4 inch deep. I will not use one, I will not face one, and if I can, I will see them banned for use within the SCA.  ``Jeanne

Φ Out. ~ Zamoranos seem awfully stiff.  ``Carrick
