The gist

Based on the responses:

• Our SCA fencing experience ranges from 0-25 years, averaging about 5.6.
• We did some form of group SCA fencing activity about once a week over the past twelve months (late summer 2002 through late summer 2003).
• We did such activity about twice a week in our peak quarter overall.

What modern calendar year did you start fencing in the SCA?

Response: 567/567 (everyone!). Average value = 1996.8

Median (middle) value: 1998. Mode (most frequent answer): 2002.
Earliest: 1976.

Question 5

How many years of activity have you been fencing in the SCA overall?

Response: 567/567. Average value = 5.65.

Median (middle) value: 4.25. Mode (most frequent answer): 1. Highest: 25.

Question 6

Over the past year, about how many days per quarter (three months) have you done fencing at SCA gatherings?

Include events, multiple-person fencing practices (regional, group, household, etc.), demos, but not solo practices (i.e., by yourself).

Response: 556/567. Answer was zero: 24.

Average value of all responses = 13.4. Average value of non-zero responses = 14.3.

How about during your peak quarter ever?

Response: 552/567. Average of all responses = 23.7. Average value, non-zero responses = 24.4.

Φ AEth. ~ ... fairly active here (attend 2 practices per week and approximately 1-2 events a month).  ``Sasha

Φ Anst. ~ Fenced from spring of 1990 to summer of 2001. Very active. 1 regular practice a week. 1-2 occasional practices a week. 1-3 Tourneys a month.  ``Henri

Φ Anst. ~ ... at least once a week, more often averaging two to three times a week.  ``Lionardo

Φ Atenveldt, (when Artemisia was a principality) and then Artemisia -- off and on for the last 13 years, in between having babies and a couple of sabbaticals. Some years I was very active with rapier fighting, other years I only fenced at a few local events. I would say overall I've had about 9 "active" years.  ``KyneWynn

Φ Aten. ~ Itry to fence at least twice a week unless mundane work intervenes.

Φ Atl. ~ I visit other kingdoms for events.... As for the numbers I am including the 1-3 practices a week I do as well as the 2-4 events per month.  ``Gypsy Boy

Φ Atl. ~ Also, I've been fighting strictly at local fighter's practices until this year. This is the first year I have fought competitively in tournaments (Authorized rapier and schlager this year).

Φ Caid ~ ... right now I'm doing at least 2-3 practices a week (some with a WMA group comprised of mostly SCA people) plus events.  ``Lot

Φ Caid ~ I try to fence twice a week (2 practices or one practice and one event), but for the last few months haven't been doing as much. Planning to get back to that level soon.  ``Felinah

Φ I live in the east. I go to 3 practice a week plus events....ahhh!  ``Astridr

Φ Mid. ~ I recall some people that came up from Ansteorra to demonstrate fencind, before the Middle started rapier combat.

Φ Tri. ~ I have not not done any fencing last year because I got pregnant and gave birth to my 9 pound 22 inches, son and had a slow painful recovery from the c-section.  ``Lillian
