About the s-word

By my understanding, schläger is the correct term, though schlaeger is appropriate too. It is properly pronounced (SHLAH-eh-ger), combining the ah and eh together, the G is hard.

Other reasonable pronuniciations are (shlayger) and (shlegger).

Their weapons are extraordinary for the price (about 40 pounds sterling for a complete weapon), but unless you specify to the contrary, all hilts come with a sharp pointed epee blade attached. The workmanship is solid, though a bit of adaptation is needed to fit schlagers. Their epees (the non-swept hilts) are exquisitely balanced. Their pommels aren't heavy, so with a schlager they're quite blade heavy. They might work better with a Del Tin blade, though I haven't tried this.

"R" and Rapier-bladed refer to an oval schläger.

Why did I make this directory?

I searched for something similar and didn't find anything this detailed or current. So, I made something that provides answers to a lot of questions – What do they sell? For how much? Where are they? What are their policies? When was it last verified?

How often is it updated?

In the past, I made the rounds every two to six months. Currently, I'm more than a bit behind on this. Even so, as far as I have seen, it's STILL the most current and comprehensive listing on the Web for SCA rapier equipment.

 

Thanks for reading! Since early 2003, this page has seen by about 200-600 visitors each month.
