SCA heraldry consultation workshops |
| Updated: Feb 9, 2003 |
We’re from the College of Heralds. We’re here to help.
I know a number of people who live in and around the South Downs area (metro Atlanta) who are willing to travel to help others learn more about:
- Different areas of heraldry
- Researching names and devices
- Doing the paperwork to submit names, devices, and badges to the SCA College of Arms
Success story: Tal Mere
In June 1999, I coordinated a workshop for a neighboring group, Tal Mere, based in Carrollton, Georgia. It had a number of people new to the Society and their herald at the time asked me to help the group with researching and submitting names and devices. So, it came to pass — on Father's Day, no less — that six heralds and artists went down for the workshop, including the principal herald for the kingdom.
Local workshop
In February 2001, I coordinated another workshop — this time here in the South Downs. Three heralds got together with two students (one soon to take the office in a few weeks for their group, the other already a herald in a group that was starting up elsewhere in the state).
We talked about a lot of the stuff you can see on this site (like what local heralds do, handling submissions, doing field heraldry), some issues on starting new groups, and added some "war stories" too! Heralds collectively like to do many things — but we discovered that sitting around, chatting, and munching are really high on the list.
We’ll come to you!
If you're within a few hours of Atlanta, say the word and tell me what your group would like. I'll see who's available, who can bring what (books, art supplies, etc.) and we'll go from there.
Your feedback is most welcome!
My nifty email form stopped working ... but you can still send me email if you would like to.
