Rapier Lists
RT Mon/Year AS Winner -- -------- -- --------------------------------------- 31 Sep 2003 38 Elijah Cameron of Black Isle [Baron's Prize List] 32 Oct 2004 39 Ýves de Fortanier
There were two rapier lists that day. The Tourney was a Swiss Five and this scribe went undefeated. Irene,
as baronial champion, sponsored another list in the afternoon (challenge who you want, 30 minute limit) ... and this scribe
won that one too. |
33 Sep 2005 40 Tormod dubh Gunn - over Ýves 34 Sep 2006 41 Cillian mac Cauldwell
This was the first tourney that Baroness Caroljane sponsored. Similar to a pas d'armes, the Defenders were the present members of the MoB (Tormod, Jean-Michel, and Leon) facing a field of 13 challengers including this scribe. Raymond the Scot issued grand, poetic challenges on behalf of several Owl's Nest fencers. |
35 Sep 2007 42 Brendan de Hay (Baroness's Favorite)
I was the event steward; Lord Cillian (also Her Excellency's Rapier Champion) was marshal in charge. If I understand correctly, Queen Lethrenn and Baroness Caroljane were to oversee separate competitions but instead merely picked combatants according to their whim for individual and small group contests. There was no true tournament. More than 30 fencers took the field from all over the kingdom, in response to written summons from the Queen and the Baroness. The link goes to the archived Web page for the event, but I have not updated it with news from the event. |
36 Sep 2008 43 Mikolaj Pilypas - over William MacAuslan
I served as both list minister and assistant marshal to Jean-Michel for BARONESS CAROLJANE'S PRIZE LIST. For news on the fencing and the rest of the event, the link goes to my Web page for the event. |
37 Sep 2009 44 Cillian - over Mikolaj
I ran the SABLE & AZURE LIST with a field of 14. William had moved to Ansteorra. Cillian defeated Jean-Michel to make the final four. Again, I sorted the fencers into two groups for balance based on skill and geography. Instead of two pools (where each fencer would get only six bouts), I ran it as two *sides* so that each fencer would get seven bouts. |
38 Sep 2010 45 Ximon Martillo de Cordoba over Charles de Joscelynne
I held the SABLE & AZURE LIST; milady Rosalinde of Owl's Nest kept the tallies. Only ten fencers competing this time; they chose to have one large pool of ten rather than two sides of five. We were done, on time, just before the lunch break. The heat index was at least 95. The MoB members present (Ursus, Mikolaj, Cillian) focused on Cut and Thrust practice during the day, though Cillian helped with marshalling the list. Ximon, cadet to Don Pachomius Oneshoe, moved here from the West earlier this year. Both he and Charles went 8-1 in the list. Half of the field (again) were in the Red Sword Company. The new Baron and Baroness, Hajji and Jadi, commissioned a fighting cape from Lady Madelena da Firenze for the unannounced prize. Jean-Michel had since moved up to the Midrealm. Other fencers who had come to Red Tower last year went to Coronation the previous weekend this year. |
39 Oct 2011 46 Lazarus Gauge - over Jehan-Azriel du Corbier
Ximon, as last year's winner, ran the tournament. I helped with both marshalling and field heraldry. The true format was a double-elimination with many modifications – rotating weapon styles (had to be different each round, up to five rounds); each contest was two out of three bouts; double-touches counted as a loss for both; the defeated fencer in a bout could, once in the tournament, roll a die... if the result was 1 or 6, that fencer would get another 'life' and the contest would continue as three out of five bouts. During the day, 18 fencers from eight different groups (plus one from Royal Lands near Atlantia) took the field. There were 15 competitors in the list, *five* of whom were of White Scarf rank, and, notably, half of them were not in Meridies two years ago. Lady Madelena da Firenze came over and kept the list tree and also made another elegant cape in Baronial colors as the tourney prize.
